Help Us Cure Blindness in the World’s Neediest Countries

Globally, 43 million people are blind—80% of which is treatable or preventable. 17 million people are blind due to untreated cataracts alone, a condition that can be cured with a ten-minute surgery and under $25 in material costs.

For these 17 million, blindness is treatable. Unfortunately, 90-percent of people suffering from vision loss live in low- and middle-income countries where a solution isn’t available. Surgeons at OC Eye Associates are helping to address the vision needs of underserved and impoverished people in Orange County, but we have partnered with Cure Blindness Project to help restore sight to thousands outside our region in sub-Saharan African and South Asia.

As a Global Partner, OC Eye Associates funds cataract surgeries at Cure Blindness Project outreaches from practice revenue earned from performing similar surgeries locally. This program allows patients across the globe to experience the same results as patients of OC Eye Associates.

Cure Blindness Project has core country operations in Nepal, Bhutan, India, Ethiopia and Ghana. Expansion initiatives are underway in South Sudan, Tanzania, Eritrea, and Somaliland.

Cure Blindness Project with partners have performed over 1.6 million sight-restoring surgeries since 1995. In addition to patient care, Cure Blindness Project builds local capacity by training local doctors, ensures quality infrastructure and equipment are available and aids in prevention efforts.

OC Eye is proud to partner with Cure Blindness Project in their goal of eradicating preventable blindness in the world.  Dr. Kline has traveled with Cure Blindness Project to outreach eye camps throughout Nepal and has seen first hand the high quality care provided by Cure Blindness Project and its partners. When it comes to charitable giving, there is simply no greater bang for your buck than giving the blind a second chance at life with the gift of a sight restoring cataract surgery, and no organization does it more efficiently in hard to reach places than Cure Blindness Project.
